Citizen alerted CCF Thane about “Elephant at Mira Road and Malad Area”

On 05 March 2010, Plant & Animals Welfare Society – Mumbai (PAW-Mumbai) Office received a copy of letter send by Citizen Mr. Ryan Braganza to Mr. Shree Bhagwan (IFS) Chief Conservator of Forest Thane in regards to “Elephant at Mira Road and Malad Area”.

The brief letter written by Alert Citizen in his words………………………..

This is bring to your notice, about an elephant which is being used for begging at Mumbai, I have seen this elephant at Malad, mostly during the evenings at New Era Signal close the Malad west Station, and twice at Mira Road opposite Rasaaz Cinema.

I kindly request you to take strong action against the owner of this elephant, who is violating the law which does not allow elephants within Mumbai City, and secondly the Asian elephant comes under the Wildlife Protection Act.

I have attached 2 photographs of the elephant with this letter.
